Exhibition catalog »Philip Guston«
Staatliche Graphische Sammlung Munich
Philip Guston created numerous covers and illustrations for famous poets such as William Corbett, Bill Berkson and Clark Coolidge. »Philip Guston. Drawings for Poets« brings together these special works. How do you show books in a book? Even the unusually small format for an illustrated book and an inserted bookmark indicate the reference to literary works. The same goes for the cover, on which typography and illustration are given equal space. The book works presented are set off from each other in color. The layout – fold on fold – plays with the image of the »double book«. The clear sans serif typography stands out clearly from Guston’s playful illustrative font and from the antiqua of the books on display. The result is a concise work that not only appeals to Guston fans and poetry enthusiasts, but is also a source of inspiration for designers and illustrators. The catalog »Philip Guston. Drawings for Poets« was published by Sieveking Verlag on the occasion of the exhibition »Drei Blicke: Die gesamte Druckgraphik / Letzte Acryl-Arbeiten auf Papier / Zeichnungen für Dichter« at the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München.
