Diocesan Museum Freising

The rooms of the Diözesan Museum in Freising were closed for ten years due to extensive general refurbishment, but the museum was still very busy at the time: even without its own rooms, the museum collected, preserved, researched and presented. The commemorative publication for the reopening was intended to make this achievement visible and provide a richly illustrated, entertaining insight into the museum’s work over these unusual last ten years. To do justice to the multifaceted content, we opted for a typographic cover design. The festive character is underlined by the glossy two-color hot foil stamping. The typography placed overhead playfully picks up on the antagonism in the title “As always – only different” and continues the game on the back of the book in the period »2012 – 2022«. The font with Gothic features appears modern whilst making a reference to the museum’s collection. The color scheme on the cover and inside is deliberately restrained, allowing the high-quality illustrations to take center stage. In the presentation of the numerous new acquisitions, an open overall impression has been achieved through a considered sequence, a relaxed placement and a generous presentation of the illustrations. The result is a book that is easily accessible, invites you to explore its pages and reveal the enormous wealth and diversity of the museum’s work during the closure.
