With his unmistakable, seemingly detached aesthetic, Alex Katz is one of the most important representatives of contemporary American art. To mark the artist’s 95th birthday, the Albertina in Vienna presented a comprehensive tribute from the rich holdings of its collection. To mark the occasion, a catalogue raisonné of his prints, also designed by us and published in 2011, was reissued. The revised and greatly expanded edition includes Katz’s works up to the year of publication 2023 and was created in consultation with the artist. A clear layout gives the extensive catalog section – with around 800 works – a clear structure and orientation. The design of the preceding texts reflects the strong influence of advertising and magazine design in Alex Katz’s work. Large, full-bleed illustrations provide an emotional and entertaining appeal. They accompany the essays and interviews and invite the reader to browse.
